ENERAL GUIDANCE FOR EXHIBITORS VEGETABLES In the ‘Collection of Vegetables’, the numbers of each kind to be shown is as follows:- Beans, Broad, pods 5 Cucumbers 2 Parsnips 3 Beans Dwarf 5 Cauliflowers 2 Peas, Pods 5 Beans Runner 5 Garlic 2 Potatoes 3 Beetroot 3 Leeks 3 Radish 9 Cabbages 2 Lettuce 2 Tomatoes not greater than 35mm dia. 5 Carrots 3 Marrows 2 Tomatoes greater than 35mm dia. 3 Celery, Heads 2 Onions 3 Turnips 3 In Classes for ‘Any Other Vegetable not mentioned in the Schedule’ numbers to be shown should be as for ‘Collection of Vegetables’. For any vegetable not mentioned above, the number shown should be as follows:- Artichokes 3 Brussels Sprouts 5 Peppers 3 Asparagus, Stems 6 Chillies 5 Pumpkin 1 Aubergines 3 Courgettes 3 Rhubarb, Sticks 3 Broccoli, Sprouting Heads 5 Kohl Rabi 3 Squashes 3 Sweet Corn, Cobs 2 Root vegetables: Approximately 3”[75mm] of stalk to remain attached. For any other vegetable, please seek advice of the Show Co-ordinator. FRUIT In cases for ‘Any Other Fruit not mentioned in the Schedule’ the numbers to be shown should be as follows:- Apricots 3 Damsons 9 Nectarines 3 Blackberries 9 Figs 5 Peaches 3 Blueberries 9 Grapes, bunches 1 Plums 3 Cherries 9 Medlars 3 Quinces 3 Currants, bunches 9 Melon 1 Raspberries or hybrid berries 9 Strawberries 9 With the exception of Apricots, Nectarines and Peaches, it is recommended that stalks remain attached to the fruit. DEFINITIONS A Vase is taller than it is wide. A Bowl is wider than it is high. A Container may be a vase or a bowl. Plants to be shown growing in pots can be exhibited in any kind of pot provided it complies with the diameter stated. ‘Annuals’ are interpreted to mean any flower that is grown as an Annual, ie. it is grown from seed, flowers and is discarded within a twelve month period. [Petunias, Antirrhinums, etc] GENERAL In Floral Art Classes, exhibits will be judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual-Second Edition 2009, unless otherwise stated. An ‘Exhibit’ is composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified. The niches and table coverings are pale green in colour. A basket must be made predominantly of plant material, with or without a lid. In the Daffodil Classes exhibits will be normally judged in accordance with the rules of the Daffodil Society. All other classes for General Flowers, Pot Plants, Fruit and Vegetables will be judged in accordance with the 2016 Edition of the R.H.S. Horticultural Show Handbook.
